Landscape MAINTENANCE
Essential for your property to be at its best so you can enjoy it for the Spring/Summer landscape season.
A proper spring cleanup includes freshening up your garden beds with cultivation and edging in preparation for perennial, annual or edible transplants.
Trimming, pruning, and removing dead diseased or interfering vegetation promotes and allows new attractive growth.
Early Spring is one of the more seasonally appropriate times to aerate your lawn. For best results, deep core aeration enhances air and water circulation in your soil, which is necessary for a healthy turf.
Spring is also an excellent time to fertilize or incorporate other soil amendments such as lime and compost tea.
Dethatching your lawn is a key and healthful practice to start the season off right, especially if your lawn is tired, pest afflicted or predominantly Kentucky Bluegrass.
Spring services can be a separate project, but we recommend it as a part of your total seasonal landscape management program.
Anticipating winter dormancy, we recommend a complete and thorough property preparation. You can rest easy knowing your grounds are 'put to bed' and ready for the glorious certainty of a welcome spring arrival! But until then… snow comes and goes and a proper cleanup will leave your property looking good between snow events.
Regular leaf cleanups keep your property looking neat and tidy. Often leaves are mulched back into your grass to add key nutrients back into your soil profile.
Garden beds with shrubs and perennials are tidied up or cut back, where appropriate.
Early Fall is also a good time to aerate your lawn and incorporate soil amendments. Deep core aeration enhances air flow, helps water circulate in your soil, reduces thatch, and allows for better fertilizer penetration, thus helping to reduce the threat of disease and pests.
Compost tea may be applied to your lawn to add microbes to the soil encouraging nutrient absorption.
With an initial Spring fertilization, turf growth will pick up and regular grass cutting is essential. Our trained team of professionals make sure the mower blades are sharp and grass is cut at the appropriate height for optimal turf health.
As summer approaches, your lawn requires continued attention. It is important to monitor turf health and adjust mowing frequency and grass height to provide optimal care through the stress of summer heat.
Appropriate mowing frequency returns trace amounts of nutrients to your grass roots to assist in seasonal recovery.
In late Fall, a final shorter cut is completed 'putting your lawn to bed' for winter dormancy.
Ornamental garden beds require regular maintenance to look their best. We provide regular care with the practice of manual cultivation and re-edging. Cultivation and "flipping up" edges keep weed content low, encouraging a 'tended' aesthetic for your property.
Garden beds can be further enhanced with the addition of annual transplants or dividing and reorganizing existing perennial and shrub material.
Trimming, pruning and removal of dead, diseased, or interfering vegetation is essential to plant health and full season property enjoyment.
Annual plantings are an immediate way to add a splash of colour and greenery enhancing your landscape. Our annual transplant teams have many combined years of experience in choosing and installing appropriate annual transplant varieties for your specific property needs: Wave petunias, geraniums, dahlias, non-stop begonias and marigolds are just some of the many options available. The ideal time for planting is late May to late June, before the heat of summer sets in. We provide the initial watering after planting.
Annual Displays require continued watering, fertilizing and regular maintenance/deadheading, along with appropriate weather (which can be unpredictable in Nova Scotia!), to flourish. A worthwhile investment for a beautiful display of various colours and textures to enjoy on your property throughout our Maritime growing season!
To thrive, annual transplants require adequate soil, drainage and moisture. The size, location and configuration of pots, planters, or garden beds does make a difference. Small containers require more attention, as do areas in full sunlight.
Spring blooming Bulb installations are the first spring flowers to brighten a garden. We recommend early bloomers in our Nova Scotia Maritime climate with an interesting range of options available.
Bulbs planted in late Fall, with optimal weather conditions, will produce a welcome early spring display. Maritime Freeze/Thaw cycles can affect bulb success…we always hope for the best!
An appealing option for some properties might be the naturalization of bulb cultivars. Daffodils, Grape Hyacinth, and Crocus have some success here in HRM. Planted to expand and colonize in optimal areas, left in place encouraged to grow wild over time.
Shrub pruning and shaping is an essential part of keeping your landscape looking fresh, clean and tidy. Our trained professionals have the gear required to ensure plant material is properly cared for.
Removal of deadwood, selective pruning and cutting back where appropriate, throughout the season encourages shrub health and proper growth.
Shrub rejuvenation, cutting back of 'larger than life' shrubs, and getting your landscape back under control is something we can assist with, as a one-time seasonal effort, or part of a continued maintenance program.
Spring and early Fall are both excellent times to aerate, fertilize or incorporate soil amendments.
Proper lawn maintenance includes appropriate timing of fertilizing, which assists in keeping your lawn green, healthy and therefore better able to outcompete weeds.
Compost Tea breaks down slowly, allowing for maximum plant uptake and minimum leaching out of the soil.
Deep core aeration enhances air flow, helps water circulate through your soil, reduces thatch, and allows for better fertilizer penetration, thus reducing the threat of disease and pests.
Soil tests are recommended to determine your turf and soil requirements for optimal health and results.
The gardens look great and if I'm being honest, it's been the best part of our home renovations so far! Thank you, Trudy, for helping us have the nicest gardens in the South End! We can't tell you enough how much we appreciate the work that you, Mark, and the crew have done to bring our property to life!
Linda, Halifax
Trudy, pass on to Mark and team that we are very happy with their work. Three significant rainfalls have happened since they installed our new landscape drainage system. The basement has never been this dry since we moved in this place 10 years ago. And the sump pump which is usually active during rainfalls has been very quiet.

Mark and his team were very professional. They worked efficiently and left the property looking as I had requested. Mark accommodated my request to further trim back bushes and a few tree limbs. What they did in one day would have taken me weeks and investment in more garden tools. Thank you for accommodating my tight time line for this job!!

We recently had Mark and Kelly from Edmonds put in a brick walkway for us. I had provided a picture of what I was looking for and I got exactly what I was hoping for. The team at Edmonds were great to work with and I will certainly use them again for any future landscaping projects I may have.

I want to pass along the positive comments that we have been receiving here at the Dominion Building regarding the cleanliness of our sidewalks since the storm. Your hard work and effort has not gone unnoticed.

We have been receiving very positive feedback from everyone who is outside on the grounds during our Convocation days. Again many thanks to you and your team for so successfully taking on the challenge of having the campus ready for convocation in the last few weeks.

We had a vision of a stone terrace that reminded us of our favorite café in Barcelona, Spain. Edmonds Landscape professionally guided us with their knowledge and expertise. They listened to our ideas and when asked provided us with excellent advice to get the most out of our space and showed great attention to our level of satisfaction. The outcome was better than we had envisioned.

Edmonds has had the landscape maintenance contract for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal since 1999. Our landscape contract covers fourteen diverse properties, some with high public visibility such as the Swiss Air Memorial sites, Government House, Province House and the Museum of Natural History. I have an excellent working relationship with the company. Edmonds responds immediately to special requests; work crews are well trained and work is of a very high quality in their attention to detail.

Any of the jobs that I have had done - be they pavers, tree trimming or garden beds, or fence construction - were all done well and I was satisfied…The quality of the workmanship and materials supplied remain long after the cost has been forgotten.

We have contracted with Edmonds for snow removal services for over two dozen properties over the past twenty years. We appreciate that they have sufficient resources in terms of their equipment and that it is consistently in good working order, as well as sufficient labour forces. They also have access to extended resources in the event that extra assistance is required, so that we are not constantly in a position of waiting to be serviced.

The time came for us to give up snow clearance on our double driveway and walks so we decided to contact Edmonds. The service has been outstanding. Our drive and walks have been shoveled and cleared before 6:00 am. In the event that we are 'plowed in' later on, a quick call brings almost immediate results. It has been a great relief to have such good service.

Edmonds has been contracted for seasonal maintenance at many properties that I have managed throughout my 17 year property management career. Edmonds has proven they are capable of looking after all aspects of landscape maintenance and snow removal. Risk management is a large part of my responsibility. Edmonds safety program in my opinion not only leads the industry but also serves as a model for any business.

Edmonds has provided Landscape Maintenance services to Saint Mary’s University for the past many years. The service is provided on a timely basis to meet the needs of our students and is very thorough. They have taken on a true ownership role in terms of the appearance of the Saint Mary’s University grounds.
